Hello! My name is MerQuel. I am 29 years old. I am raising funds for a HEART TRANSPLANT.
I was diagnosed with CARDIO MYOPATHY in July 2017, when I gave birth to my son. I returned to work in Sept 2017 on medications. Unfortunately, the medicines were not working, causing things to worsen to CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE. I continued to build fluid around my heart, causing trouble breathing. In April 2018, I had surgery for a ICD (defibrillator). For the most part, I've managed since my diagnosis. I continued to work and care for my son. October 2020, my heart stopped in my sleep, and I lost consciousness. My defibrillator had to shock me three times to save my life by God's grace. While admitted to the hospital, my heart stopped again. At this point, I was given my options by my cardiologist. I could continue to live my life with only one estimated year to live, OR I could consider an artificial heart; because the left side of my heart was failing. On April 30, 2021, I walked into Emory University Hospital to have open-heart surgery. Doctors placed an LVAD (left ventricular assist device). I made a life-changing decision for myself and, importantly, my son.
I chose to fight to live, This process has NOT been easy, but every day that I've gained is nothing short of a blessing. I was forced to quit my job because I am currently unable to work. I have a line coming out of my abdomen. My driveline site is constantly infected, which causes me terrible pain daily. I live on batteries and a wall power source at night. This condition has taken away so much from me, including my ability to be a mother to m son. My device and batteries are on my person at all times. Funds will be used for a heart transplant, medication, and other medical expenses. I want to be here to watch my son grow. I want to have a quality of life. Anything you can donate will help. Please help me win my battle. I appreciate your support.
